Nursery Management Committee

"My name is Gareth MacDonald. I joined the Research Councils in 1994 and quickly put some business the way of the Nursery, initially in 1995 and subsequently in 1999 with two children who both retain very fond memories of their time at the Nursery. I work for RCUK as Head of Assurance and am committed to supporting the Nursery in any way that I can in my position as a Director."

"My name is Amy Luke. I joined the Research Councils in 2011, working in Corporate Finance in the MRC. Prior to this I worked for a number of years in the NHS, having qualified as an accountant as part of their training scheme. Both of my children currently attend the nursery and really enjoy their time there. I am looking forward to supporting the Nursery as a member of the Board."

"My name is Mike Burkinshaw. I am the Chair of the Management Committee. I’ve been married for 15 years with two children (primary school aged) and have used nurseries and nannies for childcare over the years. One of my children has various, life impacting, not limiting, special needs. My family enjoys the theatre and being involved in all things musical. I am a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) and currently work for BBSRC in the Estates team. Previously I’ve worked for a number of years with many early years education providers designing and managing maintenance programmes for buildings."

"My name is Amanda Chmura and I am the Representative for the Nursery User Group. My partner and I have a daughter who attends nursery. I’ve been with the Research Councils for just over 7 years, working in a variety of roles in both EPSRC and MRC, and currently as Head of University Relationships in EPSRC. The three of us live in Trowbridge with our two cats Oscar and Louie. As a family we enjoy travel, countryside walks and gardening at our allotment. My daughter and I travel into work/nursery mainly via train – so if you see a woman carrying a baby on her front and a rucksack on her back, that’s likely to be me!"

I achieved my Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce diploma from Swindon New College while I was working at the nursery. I became part of the North Star Nursery Committee in March 2016.
